The Popayán Short Film Festival invites international filmmakers to look south and become part of our exclusive International Showcase—a curated, high-impact exhibition designed to foster global cultural exchange.

Guaranteed Physical Screenings: Selected films are projected in premium venues before a passionate, packed audience of film students, industry professionals, and cinephiles.

Industry Networking: Your work will be included in our exclusive Video Library, accessible only to accredited festival guests, programmers, and South American industry agents during the festival.

Prestigious Recognition: Selected films receive the Official Selection Laurel and an official Digital Certificate of Participation to boost your film’s promotional dossier.

What We Are Looking For:
We seek bold, authentic, and high-quality short films (Fiction, Animation, Documentary, Experimental) that challenge conventional perspectives and offer a profound look into human experiences and "the otherness."

International Showcase: Global Perspectives
Selected films will receive:
Official Selection Laurel: Digital assets for promotional use.
Official Certificate: A digital certificate of participation in the 17th Popayán Short Film Festival.
Audience Interaction: Selected films will be screened in physical venues with a diverse audience, fostering international cultural exchange.

Eligibility:

Production Date: Films must have been completed or premiered after January 1, 2024.

Duration: Minimum 5 minutes, maximum 35 minutes (including credits).

Language: Films not in Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.

Format: High-quality digital files (H.264, MP4, Full HD minimum).

Submissions:

International entries are subject to the registration fee specified on this platform. Fees are non-refundable.

The submission deadline is July 15, 2026.

Selection and Rights:

Screening: Selected films will be screened a maximum of two (2) times during the festival (October 5–9, 2026).

Video Library: Selected films will be available in an exclusive video library for film industry professionals during the festival days; no copies will be distributed.

Promotional Use: The festival is authorized to use stills, trailers, and posters for promotional purposes across digital and physical media.

Archive: The festival may keep a copy of the film for its private archive (research and conservation purposes only).

Indemnity: The submitter holds the festival harmless from any claims regarding copyright, image rights, or third-party litigation related to the work.

Acceptance:
Submitting a film implies full acceptance of these rules. The festival organization reserves the right to resolve any unforeseen issues at its sole discretion.
